IREA Elections coming up in March

Many people are not aware that there is an IREA Board of Director election in a few weeks.
All Ponderosa Hills residents are in IREA District 5. IREA lets us know about an election only when someone is running against an incumbent Director. This year, the incumbent is being opposed. This is not a political election; it is a private election to our co-op utility Board of Directors.

IREA will be sending bios for the two candidates in mid March. The actual ballots will arrive soon after that, and you will have a few weeks to return them. Exact dates for these events are not published, so watch for these in your mail.

As we have seen with our economic crisis, it is important not to just assume that someone else is looking out for our interests, whether that is energy policy, rates, net metering, etc. We encourage everyone to know the candidates positions on various issues, ask questions and vote.

The IREA website does not have any information on the election, but your neighbor Diane Rubinstein is attempting to find out if the candidates are speaking somewhere. Feel free to contact her if you’d like to hear what she finds out.

The candidates:

  • The incumbent, Bruff Shea: flyer
  • The challenger, John Masson. His bio and website.

Feel free to contact Diane with any questions.
